Is the piano a percussion or stringed instrument?
Hey guys!
My friends and I were having a conversation the other day with our English and Literature teacher. My friends and I all play the piano so he wanted to ask us if the piano a percussion or stringed instrument.
My friends and I say percussion but here are the arguments for both sides:
Strings:
-It has strings in it hence the name strings
-These strings are finely tuned for a specific note as in any string instrument
- Here is an example:
When you are playing the violin or guitar, you always have to tune it before you play.
Percussion:
- In a stringed instrument, you are always touching the strings to change the note. In a percussion, the note for that particular part of the instrument always is the same so you need multiple of whatever you are using to create a variety of notes.
- Here is an example:
When playing the drums, you have a drum set. Why? Because each particular drum can only make one sound, so you need multiple drums to create somethings that actually sounds good.
In every stringed instrument you touch the actual string to change the notes. Like in the violin, you are pressing on the strings and moving your fingers while you play with the bow. Also, in guitar, you are pressing the strings again to change the tune while you strum.
Thanks for reading! Please comment what you think and your arguments on the bottom!

18 Different Things to do with a Rock
Hey guys!
So today I was out playing soccer with my brother barefoot.
(Before I move on, I would like to mention how awesome it is to run in grass barefoot.)
So anyways, I was out playing and I found this rock. It looked like every other rock you have seen; flattish charcoal-grey, and smooth. I thought it was pretty cool so I took it under my arm. (because I obviously don't have wings) Anyhoo, I was wondering what on earth (<- haha get it? earth? I found it on the ground? oh well.) I was going to do with a rock. So today, I have composed/devised a list. I have also provided short explanations for my choices. Here it goes:
What to do with my normal but not so normal once I find different ways to use it rock:

So today, I have composed/devised a list. I have also provided short explanations for my choices. Here it goes:
What to do with my normal but not so normal once I find different ways to use it rock:
- Throw it at people and make them go bonkers!
- Make sure it is people you don't know and run away when you do it. We don't want you paying other people's medical bills.
- Toss it up and down
- This is more fun than you would think because that feeling of it making that "thud" in your hand is rather satisfying.
- Name it
- I named mine Rocky. I was also thinking of making it an invention like the iRock. (<- get it iRock and I rock? haha if you didn't get it, I would give up on reading this blog)
- Wash it
- That way your germaphobe of a family will not freak out every time it gets near them. Also, it makes it smell good.
- Use it as a paper weight
- This is just a thought. It might be rather distracting having a rock while your working because as you can see, you could get distracted thinking of all the other things you could be doing with it.
- Make people jealous of your new-found rock
- When my brother first saw my rock, he ran outside to find himself one. (Me=1 Brother=0 :))
- Crush nuts
- You could go all hunter-gatherer.
- Depending on what kind of person you are, I will allow you to figure this out yourself.
- Flip it
- Do some sort of coin toss. You can do it by yourself or with friends. Find a way to mark whcih one is heads or tails though because you would be surprised how hard it is to play heads and tails with only hands and feet.
- Write a poem about it
- This is for you expressive, artistic people.
- Use it as a shovel
- I was in San Diego once and I dug a rather large hole using the same type of rock instaed of my fingers. It works very well.
- Crack it open
- You could go all Thor and find a giant sledgehammer in your garage and smash it open with a grunt or war cry. DO IT ON GRASS, NOT CONCRETE. (just a warning :))
- Smear ink and write with it
- I do this all the time with my finger. I will write all over it than smear the ink all over my paper. It's called modern art. It has very raw feelings in it like bordom.
- Find out what can scratch it
- We did a lab for this in science class. Try mom's diamond ring to see how real the diamond is.
- What kind of sounds can it make?
- This is for all you musical people. Just slam it on things and make a beat.
- Decorate it
- This is for all you glitter, bedazzle, and bling people. BLING IT ON!
- Don't hurt yourself
- This is highly recommended by doctors around the world.
- How long can you stare at it?
- Have a staring contest with something that has no eyes.
- All of the above
- :) Thanks for reading the whole thing!
